In 1969, our founder, Joanne Chappel, established Editions Limited Gallery in Indiana. After successfully selling LeRoy Neiman lithographs, Joanne convinced Neiman to allow her to publish this unlimited poster, Golf Champions, which became a record-breaking poster.
Joanne Chappell discovered many regional artists and entered the art publishing world by offering one-set lithographs as fine art posters. Joanne soon introduced diptychs and triptychs to the poster market. Joanne was also the first in the industry to publish oversized posters, which became wildly successful and crossed over into the residential wall décor market.
In 1978, Joanne moved her family to San Francisco, where she opened Editions Limited West Gallery. As a result, Editions Limited became an industry leader in the fine art poster market for decades to come.
In 2007, Joanne formed STUDIO E/L as a division of Editions Limited to expand the publishing business from one-set lithographs to print-on-demand digital prints. This offered customers more size and paper options, as well as printed canvas.
Soon, STUDIO E/L became the first publisher to offer custom artwork on a variety of other substrates, including aluminum, bamboo, acrylic, mirrors, and more.
