Roya Adjory

Roya Adjory

Roya Adjory was born in the city of Rezayieh—formerly known as Urumieh—in Iran. This Turkish region of Iran is a melting pot of many religious and cultural heritages. With awareness of the upcoming revolution, Adjory’s family sent her to the United States to attend university.

She attained her Bachelor of Arts degree from Sacramento State University and began a process of soul-searching that led to many years of travel. Experiencing a variety of cultures ignited her passion for the art-making process.

Adjory formally began painting 30 years ago and started exhibiting her work in various venues. Living in Topanga, California, has provided her access to an already thriving and ever-growing artist community. She opened her home studio to the Topanga Art Studio Tours and has been showing and selling art for the past 20 years.

Her work has been exhibited in numerous art galleries throughout Los Angeles, including LACMA Wet Paint; Affair in the Garden, Beverly Hills; Stephanie’s Gallery, La Cañada; Merging One Gallery, Santa Monica; Phantom Gallery, Los Angeles; Art 4 All People, Malibu; Arm Gallery, Glendale; Topanga Canyon Gallery; Long Hall Gallery, Los Angeles; the Arroyo Arts Collective; The LA Makery; Open Studios of Topanga; and Loyola Marymount University during the first Immersive Education Initiative, where she presented her Chromo Depth 3D Art.

Adjory is primarily interested in creating art that is transformative and transcendental in its themes and content. She defines transformative art as any visual or performing art that expresses or evokes spiritual truths or higher states of consciousness—ideally leading to a greater understanding of oneself, humanity, nature, the cosmos, and their interdependence. Transformative art is intended to heal and affect the body, mind, and spirit of the viewer through the experience of art itself.

Adjory seeks to create works that reflect and communicate the depth of our collective soul, the beauty, love, and dignity of our being, and our shared ability to expand and embrace our lives.
