“My nature being truly a printmaker, I use printer’s inks & lithography inks to create a composition on a flat plate, and transfer that onto paper. I am layering colors in serial printings until I attain the finish I want, ending with a unique one of a kind monotype. I concern myself first with free-form shapes I believe will foster a sense of movement within the picture plane. Playing with the negative space forms the environment that permits depth, space and movement to interact. Katherine McGuinness works from her studio in Denver, Colorado. It is color though, that causes me actual wonder. How color and colored shapes can convey an entire story, not of words, but of archetypal and subconscious narratives. We use a pre-verbal brain witnessing and recording life’s experiences. We use no words for these on going sensations, therefore we document and share with one another through the silent acknowledging nod back to the work of art that stares out at the viewer. I think of this very thing when I view the work of my favorite artist right now; Julie Mehretu, who created the Goldman Sachs mural. I love it. When I look at that, it is like reading a book that she has read. To feel sensations from colors is certainly a Divine gift. I spend my days collecting colors and shapes from our experience and arranging them as if arranging a bouquet. Hopefully they become the words of a letter.”
