Claire Brewster

Claire Brewster

Claire Brewster is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans painting, paper cuts, and metal installations. Through her larger body of work, Brewster encapsulates the journey of women, highlighting the universal themes that unite their lives across cultures and races. From childhood to womanhood, the female body undergoes physical rites of passage—whether public or private, ceremonial or not—capturing the complexities of body politics and sexualization.

Inspired by nature and the environment, these installations imagine flora and fauna inhabiting borderless worlds. Birds, insects, and flowers crafted from vintage maps and atlases transcend geopolitical boundaries, moving freely without regard for immigration rules or biodiversity impacts.

Originally from Lincolnshire, Brewster has been living and working in London for over 30 years, continuing to captivate audiences with her deeply thoughtful and visually striking work.
