Chris Tait

Chris Tait

Chris Tait, also known as “Tayt Modern,” grew up in a family of artists—his mother, an art therapist, and his father, a graphic design professor. Inspired by the works of Howard Pyle and Frank Frazetta, he studied art from an early age but later shifted focus to music, spending years performing across London and North America. He returned to painting after a personal turning point, experiencing a deep creative intuition that reshaped his artistic path.

Teaching art classes at a detox center for eight years reinforced his belief in art as a therapeutic force. His work, often expressive and bold, explores themes of emotion and unpredictability—his Angry Dogs series, for example, captures raw intensity through violent brushstrokes and vivid color. While he takes commissions, much of his work is self-driven and available for sale.

Based in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, Tait balances his career as a mental health worker with his passion for painting, often creating during overnight shifts. Inspired by Warhol’s philosophy, he creates unapologetically, letting the art speak for itself.
