A Whisper of Spring

Celebrating the world through the luminous palette of pastels is my great challenge and great pleasure. I love the immediacy of working with the pastel stick, holding it my hand, sensing how different each stick feels as it glides across the texture of the paper, layering rich color. As I paint, whether it be plein air or in the studio, I experience building or sculpting the object I am working on, as if it were three dimensional on a two dimensional picture plane. Capturing the essence of incredible places I have been to, beautiful vistas that have moved me, the lovely form of the human body, the engagement of the portrait and objects that I love, is what I find compelling and exhilarating. Being a pastelist is my “second act.” From 1972 until 2002 I had an enormously gratifying career as a ceramic artist. I sold my work nationwide and in Canada. My work had an emotional narrative content that engaged my viewers. I am still contacted by past customers who either would like new pieces or who want to tell me how important my work has been in their lives. Illinois
