Featured Artist: Michel Keck

December 15, 2008

Mixed media artist Michel Keck's work is based on the timeless struggle between good and evil. She often symbolizes this theme through the dichotomy of light and dark within her pieces. The artist began exploring the concept after going through five years of what seemed to be an unidentifiable and incurable illness. After visiting a number of physicians and being placed on a various medications, Keck was misdiagnosed with Fibromyalgia and thought there was nothing that could help her. Thankfully, she was wrong. Caught up in the troubling times of visits to the doctor and haunting bodily pain, Keck later realized that the problem could be linked to a negative reaction to her birth control. By omitting the hormones from her body, as well as transitioning to a raw foods diet, Keck successfully regained her strength. Recovery meant that Keck was able to concentrate her strength on her artwork. She now calls herself The Raw Artist, a title she picked up after her personal experience with the revitalizing attributes of her raw food diet and the rough, Abstract Expressionist features of her works. The self-taught painter quickly gained recognition for her powerful imagery and began to sell works both nationally and internationally. One reason her pieces have gained popularity is due to the vibrant energy and emotion that clearly stands out in every piece. Keck has stated that "The real 'art' for me in the creation process is the fact that I don't rip the work to shreds before I complete it." John Yimin, advisor/caretaker of The Ioema Collection, speaks highly of the work he has seen, saying that "Keck's expansive surfaces command the attention of passers-by, reward the focus of new as well as seasoned collectors and transform a static wall into a crystal ball. Few creations rival the pure power, active style and personal impact of Keck's work." Following the artist's love of mixed media, Michel Keck's works are available on canvas or fine art paper as well as on all of the Luxe Edition substrates including clear acrylic, brushed aluminum, and eco-friendly bamboo.
