M.J. Lew's Chicago studio contains a collection of water-filled bottles and glass jars labeled with distant locales like Kauai, Lourdes, France, Turkey and The Mediterranean. "I love water," says M.J., who grew up near Lake Tahoe and whose Lake Shore Drive studio overlooks Lake Michigan. M.J. has built a reputation and a following by richly creating textured paintings and photographs that mix actual seawater with his paintings. "I felt that if I took the water from all different parts of the world and infused it into my paintings, it would bring that resonance of nature into art and into your home. After studying Art History in Spain for three years, my love for travel, design and color gave way to an edgy, urgent and thought provoking new way of expressing my views of the world and society on canvas."
